Stratton, Gloucestershire past history

My information draws on the works of many authors and the Gloucester City archives. The Clergy of the Church of England Data base 1540-1835, for the Rector’s of Stratton. The Wiltshire and Gloucester Standard and Swindon Express newspaper that started publication January 28th 1837 for local material. The Ewyas Lacey Study Group that has charted the “Norman” Lacy family who held the Manor from 1066, although there holding diminished through politics and war till it had finally expired by 1547.

As building in the village starts after 1780 in Albion Street and the making of the Cheltenham road in 1826 through to large houses on the Gloucester road from 1820 it is logical that the census from 1841 to 1911 provides a real insight into the people of Stratton.
